Botox has long been looked down on for hiding wrinkles through partial paralysis of the face, but recent studies show that the procedure may actually help skin become more elastic and thus increase resistance to wrinkles. Botox is an injection that reduces the appearance of wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the facial muscles. The extremely common and safe procedure has been mocked for being a superficial and fleeting remedy for vain celebrities, but now researchers are finding out the benefits may not just be skin-deep. Read on to learn more about the anti-aging effect Botox may have on wrinkles.
Botox May Increase Skin Elasticity
According to a Canadian study published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery by Dr. David Ellis of the University of Toronto and dermatologist Dr. James Bonaparte of the University of Ottawa, the drug may increase skin elasticity for the three to four months that it stays active. Basically, the initial concept of Botox was to paralyze the muscle so that your face is unable to form the wrinkle anymore since it can’t move. Now, studies are suggesting that Botox may actually be remodeling the skin to remove the wrinkle. Dermatologists noticed that even deep wrinkles that Botox didn’t erase became less severe while it was active, and are working on measuring the effect scientifically.
In the study cited above, Bonaparte and Ellis used a device that measures how much skin rebounds to its previous position, called a Cutometer. Our skin becomes less elastic as we age and recoils about 30 percent less at age 70 than it did at age 20. Flaccid skin makes the skin more prone to wrinkle and also makes us appear older. Bonaparte and Ellis discovered that when the effects of Botox were at their peak, the drug could increase elasticity by 30 percent, peaking at two months and then warning before dropping off at around four months.
How Botox Prevents Wrinkles From Forming
While research is still in the early stages and Bonaparte’s earlier work has been disputed, the current study mentioned above ruled out the argument that elasticity could be the result of swelling due to injection injury, since the skin will draw in more water and become more elastic for a week or two as it heals from injury. However, Bonaparte’s recent studies shows that injury would cause a different pattern of resistance to the suction compared to Botox. If Botox does add elasticity to skin, it may also help prevent wrinkles from forming and potentially be recommended as a proactive approach to aging. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, over 6.6 million Americans underwent treatment with Botox or a similar injection last year.

UltraSlim Is Extremely Safe
The number one concern on everybody’s mind when it comes to putting their body through any kind of procedure is safety. UltraSlim promises to be the safest body contouring technology available. UltraSlim Professional boasts a Risk Group 1 rating- making it the only body contouring device to do so. To put it in perspective, a Risk Group 1 rating makes it the same risk group as a tongue depressor. All other body contouring devices available have the potential of adverse outcomes and severe side effects like bruising, pain, and swelling. With the patented safe procedure of UltraSlim, there won’t be any discomfort, pain, or side effects. Moreover, UltraSlim Professional holds FDA device clearances for reducing circumference in hips, waist, and thighs, meaning that it has gone through extensive testing for safety and effectiveness. It can also treat benign vascular, superficial, and pigmented lesions.
How UltraSlim works
So how does UltraSlim work? UltraSlim works through a process known as “lipolysis.” This process is where a unique patented type of light passes through the skin tissue and into adipose tissue to stimulate a targeted area of fat cells. This signals the fat cells to “starve,” or release energy, causing pores in the cell membrane to open and release the fat. The fat released then is passed out the body through your waste.
The Process
UltraSlim is designed for a stress-free, relaxing experience. The treatment is done in a discreet room in your underwear or bra and panties, and some of our patients even take a nap while it is taking place. The UltraSlim light panel hovers over your body and never touches your skin, and you can expect zero discomfort or pain. There is also the additional benefit of having no downtime afterward, so you can immediately return to going about your day.
UltraSlim Results
While individual results may vary, UltraSlim is extremely effective at eliminating fat and boosting fat removal. With the recommended amount of treatments, you can lose inches evenly from all over your hips, midsection, and thighs. On average, the typical patient loses around 3.5 inches total after their initial treatment! You can see significant transformation in your body with as few as six treatments.

Whiplash Treatment |Â Chiropractic CareÂ
Whiplash is a neck injury due to rapid forward and backward motion of the neck muscles resulting from sharp trauma (such as a car accident). Whiplash can result in both acute neck pain along with restricted neck mobility. Chiropractic adjustment is one of the most common treatments for whiplash injuries. Read on to learn more about how chiropractic care can treat whiplash.
How Chiropractors Diagnose Whiplash Injuries
When diagnosing whiplash, the chiropractor comprehensively assesses your spine (even if you’re just visiting complaining about neck pain after trauma). They will evaluate the entire spine since other areas of the spine- not just your neck- may be impacted. The chiropractor pinpoints any regions of reduced joint motion, muscle spasm, intervertebral disc injury, and ligament injury. They may also employ a technique known as motion and static palpation, or other techniques that involve touch. Your chiropractor may also check for tightness, tenderness, and the ability of your spinal joints to move correctly.
They will also evaluate your walk to note your spinal alignment and posture. Such details assist the chiropractor with understanding your body’s mechanics and the way your spine works for the diagnostic process. There may also be an X-ray or MRI of the spine to find any degenerative changes prior to the whiplash injury. The results of your physical evaluation and your diagnostic images are compared to formulate an optimal treatment plan for your condition.
Whiplash Treatment Stages
The acute phase of whiplash is shortly after it occurs, where the chiropractor will work on reducing neck inflammation through therapy modalities like ultrasound. They may also employ manual therapy techniques and gentle therapy like muscle energy therapy. You may be recommended to ice your neck or use a light neck support for a short period. As the pain in your neck decreases along with the inflammation, your chiropractor may utilize chiropractic techniques like spinal manipulation to restore normal motion to the facet joints of your neck.
Chiropractic Treatments For Whiplash
The treatment plan your chiropractor recommends is contingent on how severe your whiplash injury is. Spinal manipulation is the most commonly used chiropractic technique, and typical spinal manipulation techniques include:
- Instrument-assisted manipulation: This technique involves the chiropractor using a specialized hand-held instrument to apply force without thrusting into the spine. This kind of manipulation is great for older patients with a degenerative joint syndrome.
- Flexion-distraction technique: Like the above technique, this is also a nono-thrusting, gentle kind of spinal manipulation employed to treat herniated discs with or without arm pain. Your whiplash injury potentially may have exasperated a herniated or bulging disc, so the chiropractor slowly pumps the disc rather than applying direct force to the spine.
- Specific spinal manipulation: The chiropractor identifies spinal joints with restricted or abnormal motion, known as subluxations. This technique helps restore motion to the affected joint through a gentle thrusting technique, which stretches soft tissue and stimulates the nervous system to restore the spine to its normal motion.
Other techniques your chiropractor may employ along with spinal manipulation include manual joint stretching, instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy, trigger point therapy, and therapeutic massage, along with further therapies to reduce neck inflammation from whiplash.

Let Our Chiropractor Help With Your Sports Injury
As an athlete, you are intimately familiar with the strenuous demands- like jumping, running, and tackling- that come with playing a sport. Repeatedly putting your body through such activities can result in painful sprains, tears, and strains. Whether you’re currently suffering a sports injury or proactively seeking to prevent future injuries, seeing a chiropractor can be extremely helpful. Chiropractors are professionals who can treat and help prevent back, neck, knee, shoulder, and ankle injuries. Chiropractors are highly skilled in manually adjusting the spine to ensure bones are balanced and aligned appropriately, relieving tension in the body, a process that allows the body to better function and become less prone to injury.
How Chiropractors Help Athletic Injuries
Most chiropractic techniques aim to enhance or restore joint function while reducing pain and resolving joint inflammation. This highly hands-on therapy is typically used to treat back or neck injuries, but also helps relieve pain throughout the muscles and joints. Athletes suffer sports injuries mainly due to repetitive motions, forceful impacts, failure to warm up properly, and over-training. Chiropractors help athletes relieve their pain and heal faster following an injury. Regular sessions promote better balance and overall performance along with quicker recovery after training and games. To begin, a chiropractor will ask you about your health and structurally examine your spine, posture, and balance. They will also examine your back, tendons, joints, and ligaments. Your doctor can use this information to determine optimal treatment options. The two most common techniques include spinal mobilization and spinal manipulation.
Sports Chiropractors
Chiropractors may also utilize treatment methods other than spinal mobilization and manipulation like heat, ice, or electric stimulation. Discuss all your symptoms with your doctor so that they can determine the best course of treatment for your injury. Chiropractors also help prevent injuries from occurring by evaluating your body to detect any imbalances and alleviating tension in your muscles and spine to maximize the body’s potential to work naturally rather than be prone to injury. All chiropractors are trained to relieve pain from tension, but there are certain chiropractors who specialize in sports medicine. If you suffer from chronic sports injuries and advanced pain, you may want to consider a chiropractor who specifically focuses on sports medicine with extensive experience in treating athletes and pinpointing the cause of injury. A chiropractor who specializes in sports medicine may also know different techniques for athletes to balance their bodies and heal from injuries, along with tips for avoiding reinjury.
